#Noshots: All We’ve Left Behind

by Astika Suprapto on Tuesday, 27th September 2011

Nothing lasts, and in this age of ever-shortening attention spans and information overload, everything – and everyone – seems ever more transient by the day. 15 minutes of fame has ridden sullenly into the sunset and has named 140 characters of tepid interest its deputy. Time was, you could hope to leave a mark, a lasting impression, on people just by doing something out of the ordinary, something that hinted at some deeper significance to why the hell you should be sucking all this air. Now your crowning accomplishment is just another link on someone’s Facebook newsfeed.

Still Standing: Prologue (Bibi Chun)

by Alif Omar Mahfix on Tuesday, 27th September 2011

Prologue
Built in the mid ‘60s, the Pekeliling Flats were the second high-rise apartment in KL. Previously a mid-tier housing area, it quickly became a low-income apartment in a matter of a few decades. With a history of violence plaguing the flats, from suicide to domestic abuse, Pekeliling wasn’t exactly a place where saccharine nostalgia was made of. Yet former tenants found it hard to let go of the building. There’s an ineffable generational value to the flats. News of its demolition has been around for more than a decade yet some blocks just refuse to be forgotten, they’re still standing till today.

Using WordsManifest’s photos as a basis, JUICE contacted 7 local designers and artists to craft artistic paeans to the last remaining blocks before they are eventually torn down.

by Miranda Yeoh on Wednesday, 21st September 2011

Right from the moment when Xu (Lapsap/TAG/Mini Compo), MSN Buzz journo and I ran the marathon (in Reebok Ultralites, of course) from the KLIA Express train to our gate during last call, we knew that we were going to have a pretty crazy time with Reebok at Tokyo. We, er, did that on purpose of course. We were putting our Ultralites to the test.

Beer Mugs Unite

by Charmaine on Tuesday, 20th September 2011

Come 1 October and the streets of Damansara Perdana will be filled with men and women alike belting songs and maybe doing a jig or two (do Malaysians jig?) in merriment. The culprit, Ecoba’s Oktoberfest Beerlympics. Yes beer lovers, it is that time of year when even the wine snobs will have no choice but to concede that beer has become a worldwide phenomenon they cannot escape.
