Mocca: Colours (FFWD)

It’s not everyday we here at JUICE review a jazz album, but hey, we know how to swing it. However, Mocca can hardly be considered a jazz outfit. Rather they play oldies and jazz-inspired music, which is totally cool except for the fact that it’s also rather cheesy. The girl-diary-love lyrics may work for a while but soon it becomes too cute until it sickens. They do a decent cover of Bjork’s ‘Hyper-Ballad’ but again it becomes too literal with an overkill of piano. Colours is lovely for a chirpy Sunday afternoon, but don’t play it on a Monday unless you want to get elbowed in the face by reality.
Listen to: ‘I Love You Anyway’
If you like this you’ll dig: Zee Avi, Yuna
