Eat, Play, Drink & Love
A three in one concept, OVO brings back the uptown to Uptown Damansara with its 8000 sq ft chic and stylish white accented bistro/restaurant/club. With the little things like an exclusive Cigar Room for you to sample your Cuban treat, as well as shucked oysters flown in twice a week from Washington to be devoured with a splash of lemon juice, this is really labeled enjoying the joys in life. Need a little breather from all the (overly) happy hour ‘juices’? Head on out to their terrace to lounge around and maybe do a little Harriet the Spy work on those down below. OVO also keeps it happening by enticing the ‘can’t really play, so I’ll watch instead’ footballer inside of us with their big a** screens showing live football matches of those who can actually play.

Minut Init Studio Galleria

Punk Rock Art Space…
Art galleries are often intimidating to the common but artistically-inclined folks, which is ironic considering it is the underclass that creates the most provocative art. Uptown Damansara’s little known Minut Init was conceived as an antithesis to the more opulent and proper galleries in town. Originally an office building, founder James renovated the space into what it is now – a place for art to be presented as it is, strip bare of any formalities. Unlike spacious galleries where empty space is almost obligatory, Minut Init makes full use of what little space it has by giving free rein to the artists over how they want to decorate the space. The gallery itself is as much of a canvas to the artists as the art pieces showcased. This makes for intimate exhibitions where patrons and artists are encouraged to mingle as opposed to the social detachment of regular expansive galleries.

Tom, Dick & Harry Meet Scott
Tom, Dick & Harry have found a new place at The Scott Garden in Old Klang Road, fret not though, they are still staying in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. It’s just that now they have two houses to frequent, it’s a little bit like polygamy – complete with the drunkenness. The new Tom, Dick & Harry is immediately familiar to those who are already regular patrons of the Taman Tun branch. Aside from the staple Hoegaarden, the pub serves all the drinks you’d expect from them, Blackthorn Cider, Guinness, and what have you. Packed with chairs, from low wooden benches to high chairs, the branch is made for higher capacity. The place makes for surprisingly good eatery as well, even if you don’t drink their awesome sausage dish Six Pigs in a Blanket is worth the visit.

Turkish delight….
You don’t need to be name checked by Monocle to be a destination bar but it helps. Nevermind that the light shimmering left to the horizon is actually from a cement plant, Rhu Bar’s exotic Moorish/Malay setting of intricate wooden screens, wicker sofas piled with magenta cushions, Turkish water pipes, fire lamps and white orchids makes it one of the most arresting spots on the island for drinks. Order up some meze to go with your cocktail and watch the sun sink below the horizon as you shoot a game on the magenta pool table or lull yourself in the Moghul Indian swing with the fragrance of the frangipani hanging in the air and waves gently lapping the white sand beach beyond.
